Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero urged provincial governments to implement development strategies corresponding to national projections to correct distortions and boost the economy.

“The focus of government work must be comprehensive and not based on isolated actions,” said the minister during a meeting with governors and the mayor of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, also attended via videoconference by the Cuban parliament President, Esteban Lazo.

Marrero called for more effective implementation of the measures in the government program that should become a working guide for territorial authorities to address the problems of each municipality, according to a report published by the Cuban Presidency’s website.

“We must be clear about the potential of our municipalities, and based on this, find solutions to the problems that affect their voters,” he said after discussing with government authorities the objectives and goals outlined for 2025.

The Prime Minister ordered a review of the mechanism to select staff, the completion of staff in the areas and government structures of provinces and municipalities, and the preparation of the workforce to perform their functions with quality.

The meeting also addressed the progress of food production and the quality of the harvest contracting process, aspects in which the participants admitted that deficiencies persist. Those present discussed this year’s economic plan and budget, and the preparations for the next Population and Housing Census, among other issues.
