A day against homophobia and transphobia began today at the El Mejunje cultural center in the city of Santa Clara.

Playwright Ramón Silverio, director of the Santa Clara Cultural Center, told the press today that this Friday, starting at 8:00 p.m. local time, a photography exhibition will be inaugurated: Mirtha, Eternally Lajera, which explores the artistic life of 2025 National Film Award winner Mirtha Ibarra.

The renowned actress will also present the film "Fresa y Chocolate," a 1993 Cuban-Spanish-Mexican co-production co-directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón) and Juan Carlos Tabío. The film moved Cuban and foreign audiences by addressing equality and respect for sexual diversity, and made a difference in addressing the issue.

Carlos Castro, a specialist at the Casa de Titón y Mirtha Cultural Center, which preserves and promotes the director and actress's heritage, told the local press that it was particularly interesting to hold the tribute in this place universally known as "El Mejunje de Silverio."

"I am pleased to join the campaign against homophobia and transphobia with the enthusiasm and seriousness that this issue has been recognized here for many years," Castro emphasized.

Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. local time, the traditional popular march in support of diversity will depart from El Mejunje. This time, the Classic Motorcycle Club and a conga line composed of musicians from various groups in the area will join the march.

In Leoncio Vidal Park, in the center of the town's historic center, a wreath will be laid for Doña Marta Abreu de Estévez, a 19th-century patriot known as the city's benefactor.

In the evening, El Mejunje will host the well-known transvestite show, while on Sunday, the Margarita Casallas theater will close with the play "Relato de un pueblo roto" (Story of a Broken Town), by Los Zahoríes Puppet Theater in Las Tunas province.
