Havana, November 12 (RHC)-- Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba, participated in the international virtual forum Hybrid rice assistance and world food security.

Through his Twitter account, the head of government thanked the sister People's Republic of China for the invitation to be part of the event.

"I participated in the international virtual forum "Hybrid rice assistance and the world's food security". I thank sister People's Republic #Chinafor this thoughtful invitation."

During his speech at the forum, Marrero Cruz recalled the words pronounced by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, at the World Food Summit at FAO headquarters in 1996: "Hunger, inseparable companion of the poor, is the daughter of the unequal distribution of wealth and the injustices of this world" and said they remain valid 25 years later.

The Presidency's website shared today the Prime Minister's full speech, in which he also informed that Cuba is making progress in the implementation of the National Plan for Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Education despite the complex economic situation it is going through.

He also thanked, on behalf of Cuba, the contribution received from China, donations of agricultural machinery and production materials to improve the productive system, as well as the academic exchange on topics such as the cultivation of hybrid rice in saline soils, which is especially relevant to face the adverse effects of climate change.

He concluded his speech by saying that the only solution to eradicate hunger is to urgently, radically and sustainably transform the irrational and unsustainable production and consumption patterns of capitalism, so that humanity can save itself.
