Havana, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Civil Defense (DC, in Spanish) on Saturday met to exchange on challenges, breakthroughs, alliances and projections.

The Deputy Head of the National Staff for Civil Defense Col. Luis Ángel Macareño recalled at the radio and TV program ¨Round Table¨ the work of “the historical leaders and hundreds of compatriots” who founded this organization.

Macareño claimed DC´s anniversary is “the strong political willingness to preserve lives and resources of society in face of the impact of dangerous events”, in spite of difficulties triggered by the US blockade against Cuba.

After a six-year work, Macareño stressed, “we have come to the conclusion that the art of saving lives lies in foreseeing.”

Cuba has mourned the death of 56 people in the last 16 years due to 11 hurricanes, as well as a loss of over CUP$40 billion.

The Head of the Communication Department Lieutenant Colonel Danai Rivera pointed out communications are an important guarantee for risk and disaster reduction management process
