Tribute was paid today in all the municipalities of this central province to the Cuban combattants who fell in the internationalist deed in Africa, whose remains returned to the Homeland 34 years ago in Operation Tribute.

Hundreds of people led by relatives of the fallen, members of the Cuban Combatants Association, the Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, workers, women and young people marched carrying red roses along the main avenues of the city.

In the necropolis of Sancti Spíritus, fourth village founded by the Spaniards in 1514, a wreath was laid next to the site that keeps the remains, on behalf of the Cuban people, while the relatives laid their wreaths to their children, relatives, friends and companions of heroic deeds.

Deivy Aquino, combatant in Angola told Prensa Latina that the dignity and honor of the Cubans will be indelible, they brought freedom to several African nations.

Their blood was and is the seed for the new generations, he said.

He recalled that more than 400 000 Cubans participated in different internationalist missions, where many of them offered their own lives, but their remains rest in peace in the Homeland.

He commented that in his memories are present pages of glory written in Angola and other African nations.
