Havana Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Sports Movement on Wednesday announced the selection of Greco-Roman wrestler Mijain Lopez, sprinter Omara Durant and judoka Idalys Ortiz as the best athletes of the year in the country.

These athletes were the most awarded in their respective sports after the voting made by the specialized press.

Lopez was a great winner among men thanks to his fourth title in the Olympic Games, a fact that makes him the only wrestler in the world to achieve such a feat in the history of these competitions.

Durant, who was recently elected member of the Paralympic Athletes Committee, was the most voted among athletes with disabilities, which is supported by her three titles at the Tokyo 2020 summer event.

Meanwhile, Ortiz accumulated the highest number of votes in the category dedicated to women’s individual sports, after winning her fourth Olympic medal in the Japanese competition.

Boxing was chosen as the best individual sport, as a reward for the Cuban fighters’ Olympic performances.

For its part, Fernando Dayan Jorge and Serguey Torres were selected the best athletes in non-individual events, while among the performance of canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo was highlighted.
