The 4th Conference on the Nation and Emigration will conclude at Havana's International Conference Center on Sunday, after two days of dialogue between authorities and Cuban residents abroad.

According to the deputy director general of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cuban Residents Abroad at the Foreign Ministry, Laura Pujol, the call has brought together 361 Cuban residents in 54 countries in Havana, one-third of them from the United States, for a meeting that she described as fruitful and fluid.

On Saturday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel attended the opening session, at which Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated that the meeting is an unequivocal example of the continuous and irreversible strengthening of ties between Cuba and its nationals abroad.

He noted that this meeting is the result of the dialogue that began in November 1978, promoted and supported by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The head of Cuban diplomacy pointed out that that the big challenge in Cuba’s foreign policy continues to be the hostility of the United States governments in their efforts to deny Cuba’s right to its sovereignty and self-determination.

Participants in the Conference have discussed the links with their nation of origin and the prospects of that relationship, as well as migration issues and others related to culture and identity, economic development and investments.
