Cuban youths will present the results of initiatives and projects in the areas of services and e-government at the World Summit of the International Communication Union (ITU).
Cuban first deputy minister of Communications Ernesto Rodriguez told reporters that the summit, to take place March 11-13 at the Melia International Hotel in Varadero tourist center, will display Cuban advancements related to online payment platforms, financial flows and e-commerce.
Other initiatives include online videogames, digital empowerment in society and the creation of capacities and digital skills in different population groups, said the official, who noted that the Cuban youths will present on-line teaching platforms and other issues related to cybersecurity and the introduction of AI tools.
The summit takes place in an important moment for Cuba, which recently approved a digital transformation policy, including a strategy to develop and use Artificial Intelligence.
ITU development director Cosmas Zavazava said that the summit will allow participants to attend key remarks by digital development leaders, participate in interactive sessions, join networking events and enjoy cultural and recreational activities promoting collaboration, creativeness and global exchange.
In a videoconference, Zavazava stressed Cuba’s commitment to inclusion and digital accessibility.
Cuba has cooperated in two occasions with the ITU to organize the “America Accessible -TIC para todos” (Accessible America-IT for All) platform, which brings together those responsible for policies and decision making to implement policies, strategies and norms providing access to Information and Communication Technologies.
