Cuban VP talks with President of Uganda

 Salvador Valdes Mesa, Cuban Vice President, held a meeting with Yoweri Museveni, president of Uganda, an African nation to which he traveled to participate at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the 3rd South Summit, convened by the Group of 77 (G77) and China.

The Presidency informed on X that the Cuban representative conveyed to his host warm greetings on behalf of Army General Raul Castro Ruz and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic.

In a friendly dialogue, Museveni recalled the footprints in the African continent of Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, and valued his contribution to the medical care of the population of his country and the training of health professionals.

The meeting was a sign of the interest of both nations in promoting and strengthening collaboration ties in areas such as health, biotechnology and food.

Valdes Mesa thanked Uganda for its support to Cuba in different areas, and ratified the willingness to strengthen cooperation, according to the vice president himself on X.

Likewise, Valdes Mesa congratulated the Ugandan president for the new responsibilities of his country, which will assume the presidencies of the G77 and China and the NAM for the first time, posted on the same social network Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, who accompanied the Cuban vice president at the meeting.

During the day, Valdes Mesa also spoke with Jessica Alupo, his Ugandan counterpart, a meeting in which a MoU on the Promotion of Compensated Trade between the two countries was signed.

The NAM meeting began on January 16 with preparatory conferences; this Saturday representatives of more than a hundred nations will meet to call for unity and better cooperation among the members of this group.

Uganda will also host the 3rd South Summit of the G77 and China, which will take place from January 21 to 23 and at which Cuba will hand over the rotating presidency of the bloc to the African country.
