Cuban Vice-president Salvador Valdés Mesa presided this Sunday over the parade of more than 320 thousand inhabitants of this eastern city, in the Mayor General Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, on the occasion of the International Workers' Day.

Along with Valdés Mesa, leading the massive march were José Ramón Monteagudo and Beatriz Johnson, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and governor of the territory, respectively, and Isdalis Rodríguez, second secretary of the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC).

René Berenguer, secretary general of the provincial committee of the organization, stated that the defense of the future depends on the commitment and discipline in each job, and called for strengthening the socialist state enterprise through the chaining of economic actors and community transformation.

He highlighted the contribution of the untamed workers to the production of food during the voluntary work days and signified the importance of the unity of the people in defense of the Revolution and its conquests.

The festivity will become a denunciation of the people of Santiago to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for six decades by the United States towards the island and intensified in the context of the COVID-19.

Solidarity friends from several countries accompany the Caribbean people on the World Proletariat Day, which in the largest of the Antilles pays tribute to the health workers and the biopharmaceutical sector, who joined efforts and intelligence to save Cubans from the terrible pandemic through medical care and the development of vaccines and medicines against the pandemic.
