The University of Matanzas (UM) graduated this Thursday 1,510 students at the Melia Internacional Hotel's auditorium in Varadero Beach, as part of the conclusion of the 2023-2024 academic year.

Leyda Finale, dean of the Cuban Academy, pointed out that 462 students of the daily course, 896 of the extended education system, 80 of distance education, and 72 of short-cycle careers will graduate from the UM, as a testimony of the institution’s different formative processes.

About 53 students will receive diplomas with honors and 21 other scientific merit awards, praiseworthy results in a course characterized by its short duration, she said.

Finale expressed that in an atypical course and not exempt from the country’s hardships, the University’s teaching staff, and other workers have joined efforts to develop an academic course that would contribute to training quality professionals.

Maria Carla Pedroso, president of the Cuban Federation of University Students (FEU), expressed the organization’s gratitude and recognition to the students who took on complex tasks such as those related to the so-called red zone during the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In its 52-year history, UM has graduated 59,042 students, including more than 1,400 foreigners from 59 countries as a sign of the Academy’s bonds of brotherhood and solidarity with the peoples worldwide.
