Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday visited the Havana-based Combiomed company, a manufacturer of medical technology founded in April 1969 at the idea of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
According to the Presidency on its Twitter profile, in that center, located in the municipality of Playa, in western Havana, projects are carried out to grant the country technological sovereignty in various fields.
Its professionals designed, in the difficult years of confrontation with Covid-19, the high-end assisted lung ventilator Combiovent, which will begin its trial period in early 2023 in three medical institutions in Havana.
Díaz-Canel also toured the Juan de Dios Fraga neighborhood, in the municipality of La Lisa, where several social works are carried out with the contribution of the profits of the BioCubaFarma business group.
The rehabilitation of the community, severely hit by Hurricane Ian in late September, included the community school, the doctor’s office, the warehouse, the pharmacy, the roads and other areas.
About 80 percent of the inhabitants of this neighborhood work at the Scientific Pole and the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute.
At that community, the head of State called on residents and provincial authorities to “maintain everything that has been done and keep moving forward.”
