Cuban President Regrets Passing Away of Electrical Worker

Havana, Cuba — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today expressed his condolences over the death of Carlos Rafael López, a young technician at the Antonio Maceo Grajales (Renté) thermoelectric plant, who suffered an accident on August 31.
Through the social network X, the head of state extended his deepest sympathies to López’s family and friends.
“I join the profound sorrow of the authorities and people of Santiago de #Cuba over the death of Carlos Rafael López Ibarra, a young turbine operator at the ‘Renté’ thermoelectric plant, following an accident during the startup of Unit 5. Condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends,” wrote the president on the platform.

According to reports from the Santiago de Cuba Electric Company, López remained cooperative with medical treatment throughout his hospitalization, despite the severity of his burns, showing strength and resilience until his final moments.
