Havana, December 10 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel received here Saturday a delegation from the U.S. Congress, headed by Massachusetts Democratic State Representative James McGovern.

Regarding the meeting, the Cuban leader reported that the parties addressed their differences and issues of common interest, and ratified the shared will to improve bilateral relations.

"I expressed the need to put an end to measures that harm the Cuban people," said the head of state on Twitter.

James McGovern and his entourage also met on Saturday with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, who reported on the severe impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the northern power against his country.

In the contact, described as open and respectful by the Cuban Foreign Minister, both parties noted the interest in moving towards a constructive relationship between the two countries.

These legislators spoke the day before, at the National Capitol (parliamentary headquarters), with the presidents of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Commission, José Luis Toledo, and the Health and Sports Commission, Estela Luna, as well as the president of the People's Supreme Court, Rubén Remigio, among other members of the Council of State.

Mark Pocan and Troy A. Carter, among other guests, also attended the meeting on the U.S. side.

Last November, a group of U.S. legislators visited the National Assembly headquarters, on that occasion with food production as the main topic.

Congressmen Salud Carbajal, James Baird and Jahana Hayes were received by members of the parliament's Agrifood Commission and by Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés.
