Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel led on Friday the opening of an exhibition by visual artist Ernesto Rancaño, with the image of National Hero José Martí as the protagonist on the 169th anniversary of his birth.

At the Palace of the Revolution, Lis Cuesta, director of events of the Ministry of Culture, delivered the opening remarks and dedicated the tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and heroine Celia Sanchez "for turning this space into a place for Culture."

The exhibition, which is part of the 14th Havana Biennial, integrates Marti-inspired works by painter Rancaño, whose visuality adorns the environments of the Palace of the Revolution along with two sculptures by artist Eugenio Rodriguez, a drawing by Alexis Kcho Machado and the stained glass window El sol de América, by Mario Gallardo.

Deputy Prime Minister, Ines Maria Chapman and the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and head of its Ideological Department, Rogelio Polanco, as well as prominent intellectuals of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and members of the Office of the Marti Program, attended the ceremony.
