Havana, April 18 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated those who earned this year's Replica of the Machete of Máximo Gómez, a distinction awarded by the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Through his Twitter account, the president greeted the "very dear and admired artists, journalists, creators, cultural promoters, military and civilians" who received the award for highlighting revolutionary values in their work.
Every April 16 since 1986, the Machete Replica is conferred to personalities for their commitment to the people, the Revolution and their work in Cuba.
The date has a symbolic value for the nation for commemorating one more anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Caribbean island.
Among the honorees was the president of the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina, Luis Enrique González, who considered the recognition an honor.
On behalf of the award winners, reporter Yordanis Rodríguez expressed his gratitude for the distinction and highlighted the commitment from each job and the spirit of serving the Homeland.
According to television reports, the award winners also participated in a military ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the Militiaman, in the capital's San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress.
