Cuban president calls to vote for democracy in referendum

Havana, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Thursday that the Yes vote in the referendum on the Family Code will be a symbol of democracy and happiness of every child and teenager.

The president wrote on his Twitter account that the new legislation defends respect, the decision-making power of every senior citizen, the inclusion of every person with disabilities, and condemns family abuse, among other innovative aspects.

The new legislation, in its 25th version, will be submitted to a referendum on September 25, after being approved by the National People’s Power Assembly in June.

This Code, which if approved by the people will replace the one in force since 1976, is considered progressive not only by Cuban, but also by internationally renowned specialists.
