President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday began a tour of Caribbean nations, which will include his participation along with several ministers in the 8th CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be held in Barbados next week.

On Twitter, Diaz-Canel stated that he will officially visit St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, and Grenada, three countries he considered that are brothers of Cuba, united by “endearing ties of friendship and a history of support in the most difficult times.”

The head of State recalled the words of the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, who said that a “Caribbean united and supportive is our only path.”

The president noted that when the United States and the Organization of American States (OAS) forced all of Latin America to break off relations with his country and Mexico’s support only remained, four newly independent Caribbean nations: Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago, established diplomatic ties with Cuba.

“To commemorate it, we will be in Barbados on December 6,” he added.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez tweeted that the official visits will be an opportunity to continue deepening relations of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity.
