Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, attended discussions held by the Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP).
On Monday and Tuesday, deputies gathered at Havana’s Convention Palace for meetings of their respective standing committees, ahead of the Fifth Ordinary Session of the country’s highest governing body, set to begin Wednesday, July 16, during its 10th Legislature.
During the Economic Affairs Commission session, Joaquín Alonso Vázquez, Minister of Economy and Planning, provided an update on Cuba’s economic performance in the first half of the year.
Additionally, the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, represented by Chief Comptroller Mirian Marbán González, presented a report on state budget oversight. Another key topic of debate was the 2024 budget settlement and the progress of the 2025 budget execution, as outlined by Vladimir Regueiro Ale, Minister of Finance and Prices.
Over these two days, deputies examined 86 issues affecting the population’s well-being and the country’s development, many of them linked to the Government Program aimed at correcting economic distortions and revitalizing the economy.
President Díaz-Canel was joined by Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau and President of the National Assembly of People’s Power. At the start of the session, Félix Suárez, head of the commission, urged members to conduct a critical and objective analysis of the topics under discussion, given Cuba’s complex economic and social challenges.
