Deputies of Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) will convene today to discuss the progress of the Caribbean nation's energy recovery and mechanisms for public oversight.
During the second day of the Fifth Ordinary Session, Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy will brief lawmakers on advancements in the Government Program aimed at restoring the National Electroenergetic System.
The parliamentary agenda includes approval of the Foreign Policy Guidelines for 2025-2028 and a performance review of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation.
Additionally, deputies will examine improvements to institutional and public oversight mechanisms.
In yesterday's session, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero addressed the government's program to correct economic distortions and revitalize the economy. Among key strategic updates, Marrero announced that the second half of the year will see reforms to the official exchange market, including a comprehensive update of exchange rate systems across monetary circuits.
The head of government also reported on pension increases for recipients receiving less than 4,000 pesos for age-related, disability, or survivor benefits.
"The challenges we must overcome are considerable, including the gradual resolution of issues most affecting the population. We believe the program's roadmap is the correct path forward," Marrero emphasized.
He reaffirmed that despite operating in an economic warfare scenario, the Cuban government remains committed to defending the Revolution's achievements and building a sovereign, independent, socialist, democratic, prosperous, and sustainable society "with all and for the good of all."
