Havana, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) The validity of the ties of Angolan poet and leader Agostinho Neto with Cuba is still alive in the Caribbean island, former diplomat Oscar Oramas said during a tribute for his centenary in this capital.
The first Cuban ambassador to the People’s Republic of Angola presented the day before at the headquarters of the Union of Artists and Writers of Cuba (Uneac) his book Doctor Agostinho Neto, an exceptional man of his time, a synthesis of the life and legacy of the African revolutionary leader. In his presentation, he recalled Neto’s links with Cuban poet and journalist Nicolás Guillén and his visit to the headquarters of that institution in 1966, during the days of the First Tricontinental Conference, held in Havana.
Oramas recalled that the book was commissioned by the then Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Raul Roa, who in 1964 directed him to study Africa.
Present at the meeting were the Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Maria Candida Pereira, the first vice-president of Uneac Martha Bonet, as well as intellectuals and politicians from the Caribbean nation.
