Lisbon, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban handball player Alfredo Quintana, goalkeeper of the Portugal's Oporto club, continues today in serious condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during last Monday's training.

Portuguese media such as Tribuna Expreso, Ionline, Observador, Jorna SOL and JM Madeira report that the player, born in Cuba 32 years ago, is receiving medical attention at the São João hospital, where he remains in an induced coma in the intensive care unit.

When the news came out, there have been many expressions of support through social networks to family members and the Oporto club, including that of the president of the Cuban Handball Federation, Franklyn Guevara, who, through Twitter, joined the wishes for a speedy recovery.

The Portuguese team decided to abandon the remaining matches of the group stage of the European Handball Champions League and today on Twitter reported that goalkeeper Quintana's clinical situation remains the same, no news and a 'very bad prognosis.'

Quintana has been representing the Portugal national team since 2014, after attending with the Cuban team to Pan American events and the 2009 World Cup.

Since his arrival in Portuguese handball, the Cuban goalkeeper is one of the undisputed players of coach Paulo Jorge Pereira, with a leading role in the sixth place of the Portuguese team in the Euro 2020 and the tenth place in the World Championship Egypt 2021.
