Havana, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's achievements in disaster risk reduction were highlighted today by Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
On his official Twitter account, the foreign minister said that 'in our country, the preparation, planning and organization of Civil Defense contribute to face hazards and minimize human and economic damages.'
All this, despite having few resources and the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States during the last six decades, he said.
The publication of the tweet coincides with the celebration of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, every October 13.
The date was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness among governments and the public of the need to adopt measures that minimize risks.
According to the official website of the United Nations, this year's international day focuses on governance, which can be 'measured in lives saved, reduction of the number of people affected by disasters and the reduction of economic losses.
