Havana, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Polycosanol, known as PPG, is still today a natural drug from Cuba with exceptional properties to deal with various conditions, including stroke.

It is a lipid-lowering, anti-platelet clustering, and blood cholesterol lowering drug.

Every day new applications are discovered adding value to this product, among which its role in the prevention of cerebrovascular diseases stands out.

Specifically for the reduction of symptoms and signs of intermittent claudication and in neurological recovery from ischemic ictus (in combination with aspirin), where it also contributes to the prevention of the recurrence of such events.

Ictus is a term from Latin, and it is seen in tissue damage to an area of the brain caused by the sudden interruption of blood flow, which by depriving the affected area of oxygen causes deficits in neurological functions, which persist for more than 24 hours.

It is considered the first cause of disability in adults, the second of dementia in middle-aged and elderly people, and is among the first three for mortality.

Likewise, it is one of the cerebrovascular diseases with the highest impact in recent decades internationally.

When celebrating World Stroke Day, Cuba has the necessary capacities to produce PPG, a product that came to be in the National Center for Scientific Research.
