Cuban deputy PM holds exchange with IAEA Director General

Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, held a meeting in Nice, France, with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the potential for cooperation mainly in food production, nuclear medicine and environmental protection.

Chapman Waugh is head of the Cuban delegation to the 3rd International Ocean Conference, which is being held in that French city, and in their exchange Grossi expressed his willingness to continue the dialogue on the new stage with the island's authorities in future events.

Cuban deputy prime minister presented him with the book Jardines de la Reina: la esperanza (Gardens of the Queen: Hope), related to the state of coral reefs, which is one of the areas of attention of the cooperation agreed with the IAEA, the Cuban News Agency was officially informed.

In turn, Jose Fidel Santana Nunez, first deputy minister of science, technology and environment, exchanged with executives of Invemar, a Colombian scientific institution, relevant in marine studies, about their experiences in accessing the carbon market.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma by its Spanish acronym), at the meeting both authorities recognized the strengthening of the existing collaboration between Cuba and the IAEA.

Both agreed on the organization of a regional workshop with the support of the platform of the Marine-Coastal Stressor Research Network in Latin America and the Caribbean (REMARCO), created in 2018, with the support of several IAEA technical cooperation projects.
