Executives of the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technology Agency (AENTA) met in this city with IAEA experts to evaluate the impact of projects stemmed from the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL).

AENTA president MSc Gladys López Bejerano headed the meeting that went over projects designed to support the diagnosis and treatment of tumors in pediatric patients and the development of regionally produced radiopharmaceuticals for targeted cancer therapy, as well as the improvement of facilities, the creation of networking and training programs, and the regional response system for sustainable marine and coastal environments.

The IAEA experts include Gabriela Borsatto, national coordinator of ARCAL and member of Brazil's National Nuclear Energy Commission, and Guilherme Henrique Pereira de Almeida, a specialist with the organization who is visiting Cuba for several days.

Attached to the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, AENTA promotes the development and peaceful use of nuclear applications in medical care and the production of radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and other diseases in Cuba.

To this end, the entity is the focal point for cooperation with IAEA, manages projects, and provides scientific and technological services and high value-added products related to renewable energy sources and nuclear and other advanced technologies that contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
