Cuban specialists are working uninterruptedly to stabilize the electric service in western Cuba, affected after the breakdown of generating plants, local media reported Friday.

The Caribbean nation lost some 600 megawatts of power in the last hours after the breakdown of generation units in several thermoelectric power plants.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Liván Arronte, recalled on national television that none of the hostile measures applied to the sector during the presidency of Donald Trump had been eliminated, 'they all remain intact.

He explained that in the early hours of this morning, May 14, brigade number one of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant in Matanzas went out of service due to a breakdown.

This, together with two units out of service in Santa Cruz del Norte, Mayabeque, due to breakdowns, made the national electric service situation even more complex, he said.

He also reported operational problems at the port of Cienfuegos (center), which delayed the transfer by sea of fuel for generation at the Mariel thermoelectric plant west of Havana.
