Havana, April 1 (RHC)-- Cuban officials thanked the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for donating 19 tons of powdered milk that will benefit some six thousand children in pediatric hospitals.

Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Deborah Rivas, ratified her gratitude to Unicef Cuba for its permanent and commendable effort to strengthen the health system, especially for children.

The powdered milk will be distributed to centers in western Cuba, said Rivas at a ceremony held earlier this week at the Juan Manuel Márquez Pediatric Hospital, one of the entities benefiting from the donation.

Since the diagnosis of the first cases of COVID-19 in Cuba, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has contributed to maintaining the vitality of essential services for children, adolescents, and pregnant women in Cuba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

UNICEF has donated various resources, including food, syringes, means of protection, refrigerators, and vital equipment such as an ambulance, an oxygen plant, and high-precision ultrasound equipment.

In an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, Alejandra Trossero, UNICEF Representative in Cuba, said that as part of the support to the health emergency in the country, the donation of 19 tons of powdered milk would benefit around six thousand children, patients of pediatric hospitals in the western provinces.

The expert emphasized that this precious food, which is part of the nutritional recommendations for this age group, will also benefit the pediatric wards of other hospitals and research institutes in the region.
