Cuba took a step forward towards a new Family Code, with the approval of the commission that will present the draft bill to the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament).

During a session of the Council of State held Monday headed by its president, Esteban Lazo, the group of deputies, representatives of mass and social organizations, specialists, and experts that will continue the work on the legal text was constituted.

According to the Cuban Parliament website, the commission will expand the necessary studies and consultations, as agreed by the legislature last December, to improve the work that has been developed for several years in different versions of the document.

The meeting of the Council of State, which Prime Minister Manuel Marrero attended, also gave the green light to one decree-law on the creation of the Commemorative Medal "60th Anniversary of the Ministry of the Interior", on the occasion of that anniversary; and another on amending Decree-Law No. 202.

That decree-law verses on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction,  it is now changed due to the need to add new substances recognized at the XXIV session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

As part of the meeting, two agreements were also approved, related to the strengthening of the People's Power's work.

One of them established an independent department in each province for the Secretariat of the Parliament, whose objective is to support that body, the Council of State, and its auxiliary offices to fulfill their attributions.

Likewise, it was determined that while the process of accountability of the delegates to their electors cannot be carried out, the municipal assemblies of the People's Power will evaluate the release of the delegates from their work duties, at least one day a week, to facilitate the link with the citizens.
