Cuba reports 13 new cases of COVID-19

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported that as of March 26, 13 additional cases of COVID19 were confirmed in Cuba, for a total of 80.

According to Francisco Durán, Director of Epidemiology at MINSAP, 1,839 cases of acute respiratory infections are currently being investigated, 1,851 patients are hospitalized for surveillance, and 34,216 people are being followed up by primary care.

He explained that of the people confirmed, 70 are reported in stable condition, four patients have been released, one returned to the United States, and two have died.  He added that two cases are reported in serious, and one is in critical condition.

Dr. Duran also said that over four million people had been screened at the community level.

The novel coronavirus is already spread in 173 countries, 125 of which have local transmission. 

In the region of the Americas, 35 countries are reporting transmission, and the number of affected islands has increased to 13.
