Cuba receives Russian donation through WFP

Havana, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) Russian ambassador to Cuba Andrei Guskov on Thursday praised Russia-Cuba friendship after sending a food contribution through the World Food Program (WFP).

Russia donated $3 million to Cuba through WFP, in order to purchase over 600 tons of sunflower oil to be distributed free of charge in Cuba as part of the Family Attention System (FAS).

During the delivery ceremony, held at the Territorial Wholesale Company, based in Cotorro municipality, Cuban authority received as many as 516 tons of sunflower oil, while 157 other tons were already stored away in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

In addition to the Russian ambassador Andrei Guskov, the First Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Ana Teresita González; Vice Domestic Trade Minister Grisel Ávila, and WFP´s Representative in Cuba Paolo Mattei.

In his speech, the Russian diplomat emphasized his country´s donation will be distributed free of charge through FAS and will favor food and nutritional security improvement of the most vulnerable people nationwide.

“This support to the Cuban people is very important, both due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the situation worsened by unprecedented tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba,” Guskov stated.

Plus, Guskov recalled all projects that are being rolled out under UN Development Program (UNDP) for $5 million, financed by the Russia-UNDP Trust Fund for Development (TFD).
