During the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2023), Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García on Wednesday stated his country managed to reach one million foreign visitors.

García explained that beyond this one-million figure, Cuba is heading towards tourism recovery.

Major drawbacks impacting on Cuba´s tourism are air connectivity limitations, despite the fact that 51 airlines are currently operating in Cuba.

For such a reason, an important part of FITCuba 2023 is goal-oriented to airlines to boost their seat capacities to travel to Cuba, García told reporters. We must focus on the arrival of new airlines to Cuba, since cruise ship arrivals were affected after the unilateral measures adopted by the U.S. government under Donald Trump´s administration.

About 600,000 holidaymakers arrived by sea in Cuba back then, many of them Americans, García recalled.

Plus, García enlightened that Havana´s heritage recovery is not only concentrated in the capital’s historic center.

The difference between our heritage and many of those preserved worldwide is that it´s a living heritage, he stressed.
