Cuba prepares to live with Covid-19

Exactly seven months after the first Covid-19 case was detected in the country, Cuba is currently on the verge of a period of new normality in which people will have to live with the disease.
However, this period allowed to carry out adjustments, based on scientific knowledge and experiences, leading to favorable results in managing the epidemic and showing that the country can move towards the new stage.
President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on the Mesa Redonda (Round Table) radio and TV program on October 9 that Cuba is considering a strategy to live with the disease, while economic and social activities are reviving. This is possible with a minimum risk if people act responsibly.
The problem is not only relying on the benefits of a health system that in these seven months has treated some 5,948 Covid-19 patients, but also their contacts. No intensive care units have collapsed; so not to get sick is essential.
The existence of the Soberana 01 vaccine candidate and the possibility, according to BioCubaFarma President Eduardo Martinez, that two other vaccines will be under evaluation in humans this year, was also added to these benefits.
