Cuba is currently making progress in recovering the damage caused by Tropical Storm Idalia, which became a hurricane after crossing the country's western region on Monday evening.

Idalia hit Pinar del Río province with particular force and affected the provinces of Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa and also Isla de la Juventud special municipality.

Pinar del Rio, Cuba’s westernmost province, restored 91 percent of its power service on Thursday, thanks to the support of power line brigades workers and specialists from other territories.

During a tour of Sandino and Guane municipalities in Pinar del Río, also strongly hit by Idalia, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero informed that the entire power distribution network could be restored next weekend.

Marrero stated that Tropical Storm Idalia damaged about 1,000 homes in that province, also hit by Hurricane Ian in 2022. He called on the population and authorities to work to promote the local construction program.

On Thursday, the head of Government also visited Artemisa and Mayabeque provinces and met with local residents and authorities.
