Havana, June 8 (Prensa Latina) They hope to keep improving protocols of action and risk perception in population in Cuba to Covid-19, considering the impact, severity and mortality rates of the disease.

Doctor Lizet Sánchez, member of the Epidemiology and Mathematic Modulation National Group, emphasized that the battle against Sars-CoV-2 virus can be won in the preventive phase.

She explained that through a scientific study it was possible to know markers´patterns like impact, mortality, percent of cases with severe conditions and lethality variability rate.

In relating mortality with impact, a strong link can be seen, but , in most territories there is great variability, she pointed out.

Which is probably due to demographic, social, biological, clinic-pathological factors and operational matters within the very health care system, she added.

Impact is the passage of overall population to active infected, and mortality reveals what happens inside the system and the effectiveness of acting protocols to prevent death, comented the expert quoted by Granma newspaper.

¨Still, through protocols, we keep track of the passage from active infected to serious conditions to deceased¨, Underlined Sánchez.

In the study, percentages of cases in serious and critical conditions are added, as well as the number of deceased in relation to the number of people in intensive care units, time and adherence to the protocol, she explained.

Follow up of those in serious and critical conditions gives an idea of vulnerabilities like aging, prevalence of comorbidity and the quality of protocol implementation.

When this marker goes wrong we need to act on the preventive phases and early treatment, insisted Sánchez.

Through the number of deceased among those in serious and critical conditions, we evaluate the last stages of the disease, and if the marker is too high, then work must be done in therapies to avoid the passage from severe to deceased, explained the expert.
