Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the international community's support for the island on its rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades.

The top Cuban diplomat said on Twitter that in 2020 the countries asked again to eliminate that extraterritorial siege.

In this regard, he referred to the 159 States and 34 international organizations that sent information to the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, supporting the resolution that Havana presents every year demanding the cessation of the policy.

He also mentioned that during the high-level segment of the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), held last September, 34 heads of delegations denounced the blockade.

Since November 24, 1992, the General Assembly has voted against Washington's measure, requesting its elimination.

According to Cuban authorities, between April 2019 and March 2020, the U.S. economic blockade caused losses in the order of $5 billion, a record figure for one year, and the accumulated damages in six decades amount to $144 billion.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuba requested the vote on the draft resolution on the Need to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America in May. Like in the 28 previous occasions, the island expects the international community's overwhelming support for its approval.
