Havana, January 7 (RHC)-- Cuba on Friday hailed Brazil's rejoining the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) under Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Through his Twitter account, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez greeted this action and valued its importance in a context for the region that demands integration.

We welcome Brazil's decision to fully rejoin CELAC. Latin America and the Caribbean can and must continue to consolidate their unity in diversity, as a vital condition for our essential integration, the head of the Cuban diplomacy wrote on Twitter.

This Thursday, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced the full and immediate incorporation of the South American giant into all political and technical instances of the mechanism.

According to a message released on Twitter, the fact came about due to an invitation from the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, who holds the interim presidency of the forum, for President Lula to participate in the VII Summit of the organization, to be held in Buenos Aires on January 24.

The message added that Brazil's return to CELAC is an essential step towards rebuilding the country's diplomatic heritage and its full reinsertion in the international community.
