Cuba congratulates Russian people on Victory in the Great Patriotic War

HAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, congratulated today the Russian people, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

On Twitter, the Cuban diplomat stated that Cuba recognizes the debt of gratitude owed by humanity to the heroic Soviet people for their sacrifice in the confrontation with fascism.

The Great Patriotic War is the name given to the period during World War II, from the Nazi invasion of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which began on June 22, 1941, until May 9, 1945, with the capitulation of Germany.

According to estimates, more than 26 million Soviets died during that conflicting period.

According to Prensa Latina, Russia celebrated the anniversary with marches in 28 cities, with the participation of 65,000 troops, 2,400 types of weapons and more than 460 airplanes.
