Havana, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero congratulated the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) on its 59th anniversary.
On his Twitter account, he wished “many congratulations to all its members on this new anniversary.”
In the same social network, the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, said that “we will continue advancing towards the press model that our socialism requires”.
UPEC arrives to this celebration focused on its XI Congress as well as on the readings and citizen consultation of the draft bill of the Social Communication Law, which in its 32nd version addresses the strategic and integrated management of the communicative processes in the institutional, media and community spheres.
The organization brings together reporters, correspondents, cameramen, cartoonists and other professionals of the Caribbean island’s journalistic media.
Since its foundation, on July 15, 1963, as a result of the merger of several journalists’ organizations, it has contributed to the training of professionals, to the relations with colleagues from other nations’ press media, to the care of retired communicators and to the assimilation of technological advances.
It also has the Pablo de la Torriente Publishing House, the José Martí International Institute of Journalism, the Press Information Center and Press Houses in each province and in the special municipality of the Isle of Youth.
