Cuba backs dialogue to achieve peace in Colombia

Havana, Nov 21 (RHC) President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that Cuba views with hope the resumption of talks between the Colombian government and the guerrillas as an opportunity to achieve the peace the people deserve.
Through his Twitter account the president, who is in Russia on an official visit, pointed out that Cuba participates in the resumption of the Talks between the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army, in its capacity as guarantor, based on the official requests received from the Government of Colombia and the ELN.
In the same social network, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez welcomed the reinstatement of the discussions between the Government of Colombia and the ELN and recalled that the island participates in its capacity as guarantor and ratifies its support to this dialogue process.
This Monday, delegations of the Colombian Government and the ELN restarted negotiations in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, with the purpose of advancing in a peace process and the full construction of democracy.
This was announced last Saturday in a communiqué signed by the High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, and Commander Pablo Beltrán, of the ELN Dialogue Delegation.
The meeting is accompanied by Cuba, Norway, and Venezuela as guarantors of this process, agreed on last August by the new Colombian government and the National Liberation Army. Also in a statement, Norway, Cuba, and Venezuela valued as a step forward the decision between the parties to restart the dialogue and expressed their satisfaction with the decision to begin the talks on the basis of what was previously agreed.
They also pledged to act in strict adherence to their status as guarantors in a ‘responsible and impartial manner and expressed their gratitude for the trust shown by the disputing parties. (Prensa Latina)
