Overwhelming International Support Rejects Long-Standing Embargo
President Miguel Díaz-Canel celebrated today the overwhelming support from the international community at the United Nations General Assembly, where 165 member states rejected the United States' blockade against Cuba.
The president highlighted on social media that "Cuba, dignified, resilient, and without any fear of the ruthless, brutal, cynical, and lying empire, has once again defeated the Genocidal Blockade of six decades."
In this context, he denounced that "the crude Yankee pressures managed to break a few. But the majority of the world once again voted with Cuba for Life."
The Caribbean nation obtained 165 votes in favor of the resolution calling for an end to the American blockade, an occasion which saw seven votes against and twelve abstentions.
Experts from the Cuban foreign ministry highlighted in special informational segments the symbolic value of this diplomatic victory, achieved despite the pressures exerted by Washington on its allies to obstruct the vote.
This ballot marks the thirty-third consecutive year in which the UN has almost unanimously condemned this coercive policy, which the Cuban government denounces as the primary cause of the island's underdevelopment and economic difficulties.
A specialist from the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated, "This day demonstrates, once again, that the blockade does not just affect one country, but millions of Cubans in their right to development," highlighting that although the resolution is not legally binding, it constitutes a moral, legitimate, and legal demand backed by the vast majority of the international community.
