Havana, Dec 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health authorities are seeking to maintain Covid-19 contagions under control, so they will administer booster doses to the population at risk and people aged 70 and older, it was reported on Saturday.

“A new booster dose of homegrown vaccines will be administered in Cuba to the population at risk and people aged 70 and older if six months have passed since the last dose,” the Havana-based Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) reported on Twitter.

The institution also tweeted that women in their last trimester of pregnancy and those still breastfeeding will receive a booster dose.

The CIGB recently ratified that the homegrown Abdala (CIGB-66) vaccine against demonstrated its safety and efficacy in the fight against the disease.

The vaccine has received emergency use authorization by the national regulatory body since July 2021 after demonstrating 92.28-percent efficacy in preventing the disease and 90-percent effectiveness in severe SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus patients.

Dr. Sonia Resik, a senior researcher, once said that more than 80 percent of the adverse events reported in children were mild, and the indicators were comparable with the data obtained in adults, thus ratifying its effectiveness.

Cuba also developed the Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus vaccines, produced by the Finlay Vaccine Institute to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, and two vaccine candidates: Soberana 01 and Mambisa (CIGB-669), which are in clinical trials with significant results, according to official sources.
