A fire that occurred this Friday at Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant (Felton) in eastern Cuba was controlled by firefighters and workers from the plant.

The general director of the Thermoelectric Power Plant, Osmel Maturel, explained that a leak occurred in one of the tubes of the boiler that moves national crude oil while a test was being carried out to start up the Block #2 turbine.

The workers are in good condition and there were no injuries reported. They have returned to the block to synchronize the SEN after quenching the fire after one hour, assured the manager.

Maturel said that the boiler was off, but the high temperatures caused the accident that considerably affected the unit.

The Ministry of Energy and Mining made a preliminary announcement that “there’s significant damage that will require a partial reconstruction of the boiler. Various items and supplementary equipment can be retrieved.”

The head of this ministry together with the deputy prime minister Ramiro Valdés Menéndez examined the Power Plant to identify the damage in detail.
