The ongoing growth of bilateral relations, acknowledged with satisfaction by the Presidents of the National Assemblies of Cambodia, Khuon Sudary, and Cuba, Esteban Lazo, is being emphasized today by media outlets.

Sudary and Lazo met yesterday within the framework of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments, held in Geneva. During their meeting, they underscored that these ties, based on mutual trust, solidarity, and a shared commitment to peace and development, will be further strengthened in the coming years.

According to the news agency AKP, the meeting reflected a firm mutual determination to preserve the legacy of friendship and collaboration, and to continue contributing to global peace, multilateralism, and the well-being of future generations.

Both leaders emphasized the need to bolster cooperation across all sectors and agreed that such efforts are essential to promote peace, stability, and inclusive development for the benefit of both peoples, especially as the world faces geopolitical tensions, economic challenges, and non-traditional security threats.

At the meeting, Lazo congratulated Cambodia on its recent declaration of a ceasefire with Thailand and reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to continuing mutual support in the international arena.

The encounter between the heads of the Cambodian and Cuban legislatures also took place during the year both nations mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which began on April 15, 1960.

In June, Sudary received Cuba’s ambassador to the Kingdom, Milena Zaldívar, in Phnom Penh, expressing confidence in the continued growth of the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries.

The parliamentary leader highlighted the strength of the existing solidarity ties, calling the relationship exemplary and enduring despite geographical distance and the changing global geopolitical context.

She also reaffirmed the willingness to deepen dialogue at the institutional legislative level, praising the Cambodia-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group for actively promoting parliamentary and people-to-people ties.

Sudary stressed the complementary roles of state diplomacy, parliamentary diplomacy, political party diplomacy, and popular diplomacy in advancing the partnership between the two nations.

Ambassador Zaldívar, for her part, reaffirmed Cuba’s strong commitment to work jointly with Cambodia to further deepen the traditional friendship and bilateral cooperation in sectors of mutual interest. She also suggested initiatives aimed at engaging the younger generations of both countries.
