Congratulates the new president of the African Union Commission

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, on Saturday for his election to head the African Union (AU) Commission.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party also highlighted in a message in X that «with this organization and the mother continent we are united by close ties of brotherhood, friendship and cooperation.»

e African Union can always count on Cuba, he added. The congratulations came shortly after the election of Ali Youssouf to lead the continental organization with a four-year mandate, an issue that stands out on the agenda of the two-day XXXVIII Summit of the AU, inaugurated today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This meeting of Heads of State and Government has as its central theme «Justice for Africans and Afro-descendants through reparations.»
