CIS summit discusses security issues in Kazakhstan

Astana, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) The initial debates of the Summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)are focused on security issues, cooperation in politics, the economy and the humanitarian sphere.

The first meeting will only be attended by CIS leaders, including President Vladimir Putin, the press office said on Friday.

An extended meeting will be held later on, with the participation of the delegations, where the representations of the regional group will also discuss topics of interaction such as the development of the trade association and investment.

It is expected that the summit will decide on the start of the work of the CIS Human Rights Commission. An international organization for the support and promotion of the Russian language could also be created under the auspices of the regional entity.

Agreement is also expected to be reached for the Community to obtain observer status in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

In general, according to the Kazakh delegation presiding over the meeting, a solid package of joint documents has been prepared for approval at the summit.
