In response to new threats issued by US President Donald Trump against Cuba, the Chinese government reiterated its firm support for the Caribbean nation this Monday and demanded that the United States immediately lift the blockade and unilateral coercive measures.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, during a press conference, rejected the statements from the White House occupant and declared that her country firmly supports safeguarding Cuba's sovereignty and security.
She stated that Beijing opposes external interference and therefore urged the US to immediately cease the blockade, sanctions, and any form of coercion against the largest of the Antilles.
Similarly, she called for taking more actions that lead to regional peace and stability.
The US president wrote on his social media this Sunday: "No more oil or money for Cuba. Zero! I strongly suggest they make a deal before it's too late."
The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, immediately issued a response in which he emphasized that "they have no moral standing to point at Cuba on anything, absolutely anything, those who turn everything into a business, even human lives."
When questioned about Trump's assertions that China and Russia could only buy Venezuelan crude under US control, Mao Ning stated that Latin American countries are sovereign and independent nations with the right to freely choose their partners.
Regardless of how the situation changes, China will continue to deepen practical cooperation with Latin American countries, including Venezuela, and promote common development, affirmed the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
