China criticizes US for reinstating Cuba in list of terrorist states

China criticized the decision of the new US administration to return Cuba to the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism and questioned Washington's international credibility.
In response to a question from Prensa Latina, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiankun quoted Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel as saying that this measure aims to intensify the cruel economic war against Cuba to achieve its domination. “This practice shows that the unilateral lists and coercive mechanisms of the United States are arbitrary and that the repeated use of unfounded accusations against Cuba to impose unilateral sanctions is baseless, fully exposing the hegemonic, authoritarian, and harassing face of the United States,” he emphasized.
The spokesman questioned the credibility of the US government. He again denounced the blockade imposed on Cuba, which “seriously violates international law and the basic principles of international relations, causing a profound disaster for the Cuban people, their economy, and their quality of life.” “China has always opposed the United States interfering in Cuba’s internal affairs under the pretext of freedom, democracy, or the fight against terrorism,” he said.
Guo urged Washington to lift the total blockade against Cuba as soon as possible and to effectively remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. In addition, he called on the United States to do more to benefit relations with Cuba and to improve peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
US President Donald Trump revoked Joe Biden’s order yesterday to remove Cuba from the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism. In his first administration (2017-2021), Trump applied a policy of maximum pressure on Cuba, which he reinforced with 243 additional measures.
