Beijing, May 4 (Prensa Latina) China on Tuesday urged the Philippines to refrain from proceeding with actions that complicate the situation in the South China Sea, by ratifying its sovereignty over that area.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin reaffirmed that the island of Huangyan and the adjacent waters are under China's jurisdiction, so Manila must respect its rights there.

The spokesperson emphasized the importance of keeping disputes and differences away from friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Likewise, he assured that Beijing will maintain support for Manila to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, recover the economy and boost development.

Wang's remarks follow a communique issued by the Philippine Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday and in protest for the presence of Chinese Coast Guard vessels in disputed waters in the South China Sea.
