The Ministry of Health presented a contract notice, effective Thursday, for 3,174 new positions for the program "More Doctors" to guarantee healthcare for more than 63 million Brazilians.
Of that amount, 3,066 positions will be distributed among 1,620 municipalities and 108 will be allocated to 26 Special Indigenous Health Districts (DSEI), to strengthen care in remote and socially vulnerable regions.
The Ministry indicates that there is an important connection between More Doctors, the strengthening of Primary Health Care, and the ongoing effort to accelerate specialized care in the state-run Unified Health System (SUS), one of the administration’s main concerns.
“The integrated work of these professionals, through electronic medical records and workflows that will reduce patient wait times, will facilitate access to medium- and high-complexity care for all citizens,” emphasized Health Minister Alexandre Padilha.
The program’s professionals are part of the Family Health teams, which provide closer care and follow-up to the population. The information is recorded in the Electronic Medical Record, which allows for the integration of patient data between primary and specialized care, including consultations and examinations.
“Once again, Más Médicos fulfills its role of providing professionals to the most remote and vulnerable areas, while also offering training opportunities for physicians, from specialization in Family and Community Medicine to master’s and doctoral degrees in Family Health,” said Felipe Proenço, Secretary of Labor Management and Health Education.
The opportunities are distributed among three profiles: physicians trained in Brazil and registered with the Regional Council of Medicine (CRM), Brazilian physicians trained abroad, and qualified foreigners.
